A stitch in time…
The whole of last week just flew experiencing this near war situation in Mumbai, the place I was born in and unconditionally love… After living a whole lot of emotions in 61 hours, I felt a greater emotion emerge…. a great sense of pride and patriotism and the need to feel united and connected with every Indian irrespective of caste and creed. The intent of the act was to break the country but it has done the opposite - brought us all together and that was visible starting with the proceedings in the Parliament house where all parties forgot their differences and with solidarity expressed common concerns and suggestions to tackle terrorism.
In all this chaos I completely forgot that I hurt my foot bad enough to get 15 stitches… don’t ask me how… in a freak accident, thanks to my big sunglasses and nose in the air, I overlooked a sharp metal piece that slit my foot, thankfully not below but over the foot…! In normal circumstances I would’ve got hysterical thinking its serious… Don’t panic, it’s not…. I’m fine! Nothing that local anaesthesia, a tetanus injection (OUCH) and antibiotics (ARRGH!) couldn’t solve. Nothing to worry about other than my dates that have gone for a toss, disabling me from taking my Odissi lessons for my new film “Desire”. Really excited about this one since it’s an Indo-Chinese project. It’s got a Chinese actor, Xia Yu, my first with a foreign actor. Looking forward to working with him and R. Sarath (renowned Malayalam director). Got to take it easy for two weeks and then will resume work. Hoping to get back on my feet soon!
Moral of the story is – Look before you leap and stay grounded! Ha ha ha!
(P.S. Thanks so much for your comments. It does matter.)

oh it’s sad that you have hurt your foot. hope you will be fine soon.
December 13th, 2008 at 8:11 am
Shilpa! 15 stitches? That sounds serious. I hope you’re O.K now though. Just rest, and yes, look before you leap next time.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to catch up with your dance lessons for ‘Desire’. I’m sure your dancing ability is so good that you will be able to master the art of Odissi in half the prescribed time!
Talking of Desire, I hope this film becomes a huge international hit. This is the first time you will be starring alongside a non-Indian actor, and Chinese films have an immense audience worldwide.
On a closing note, I would like to send my condolences to everyone who lost their loved ones in the horrendous act of violence and terrorism in Mumbai. No one should have to witness or suffer such acts of brutality. Shilpa, seeing this happen in your own city must be devastating. I hope everyone overcomes this, and I pray that terrorism is eradicated from the world!

Please don’t get offended, but since you’re alright now, is it okay to laugh at the way you got hurt? Lately we’ve been seeing you do everything but act, (I believe Metro was your last release, or Apne I’m not sure, though you were just kind of in Apne to take up that required heroine space even though you had more to do than Katrina. When can we see you act again? I thought you were fantastic in Metro, I’m surprised you didn’t get any awards for it. Honestly I think your film with the Chinese actor sounds like a dud, definately not something I would wanna see, but I’m sure others wouldn’t mind seeing it.

Hi Shilpa,
Firstly I would also like to pay my respects to the victims of the tragedy which happened in Mumbai, my wishes and prayers are always with the people of Mumbai. Even though I do not live in Mumbai, I share a special bond with Mumbai, since I have been visiting the city since a young age.
Shilpa, I’m a big fan of yours since Baazigar, you’re an amazing actor and an amazing human being. I’m from London, and ever since you appeared on Big Brother, my non desi friends have become such huge fans of yours. It’s actually a big problem for me now, as they are always borrowing my DVD film collections of yours! On a more serious note, I hope you get better soon, with the stitches etc.
Well I’m so happy that your career has taken a new and fresh direction since big brother, Shilpa you were awesome in Big Brother, and now I really can’t wait to see you in more films. Your new film, the indo china film seems very interesting, and new, cant wait for it. I think you have become such big international star now, it is great. I also feel at the same time you deserve it, you’re a fantastic actor and dancer, your one of the few female actors who has survived so long in the industry, and its credit to you. I really like the way you have experimented with different films, looks, acting and roles. I really am looking forward to the future, and your whole variety of work.
Good luck, and all the best Shilpa.
- A loyal fan.

You see thats the issue with being tall, you miss things on the ground while walking..heh. Tall women should marry short guys and make them walk infront for extra safety.
And that was such a bad joke, i need sleep..sighs..

Hi Shilpa,
Hope and pray you feel better and are back on your feet very soon.
I am touched seeing your concern for our people. I am wife of a US physician and a first time producer of a motion picture which is based on a great message for humanity at large. It is beyond country lines and is for the betterment of suffering humanity.
Some US politicians had opposed Stem cell research which will be the way of several medical therapies in the future. This movie is HOPE and the punch line is A tragic crime challenges a senator’s stance against STEM CELL research. Do visit the website http://www.themoviehope.com and spread the good message.
Wishing you good health and more prosperity.

I sure hope your foot is okay now.
I am sure your foot fans must have been worried. You do know that you are said to have the best looking feet among Indian actresses. I know this because this is reported in almost all foot forums.
Even during the Big Brother shows, the forum were all filled with close up photos and videos of your pretty looking feet.
Do take care of yourself. All the best Shilpa.
