A Special Night Out…

January 15, 2009 - 1:57 pm

Last Night’s dinner was a surprise and how! Now you would imagine why I’d talk about dinner on my blog! This one was a special one. My very dear friends Pradeep and Rupali Shah along with Raj didn’t disclose the venue for dinner as it was meant to be a surprise. They had been planning it for a week, I was curious and tried everything to find out but was clueless. I was driven to the Gateway of India (discreetly) and I thought, they had booked a yacht and we were going cruising… But when my car took the right turn and stopped at the TAJ HOTEL’s Front entrance, I was confused, my friends in the car behind were beaming, and I was still bewildered.

Entering the hotel after the whole 26/11 episode brought back many feelings, some not so good. The hotel still looked a beauty, the only major change being the security that had been beefed up.

Nobody still told me where we were going despite me asking them, they said wait and see… we went up a lift to the top floor and soon we reached a door which had WASABI written outside it! It used to be my favourite restaurant and we used to frequent it quite often. We were supposed to be there on the 26th as well! Anyway I entered and screeched with happiness ’cause I had no idea they had reopened the restaurant (make shift) again only in a different section. I had tears of joy when I met Ronald, the Mangalorean waiter who’s always served me, spoke to me in Tulu (my mother tongue) and always made me feel at home. I had a sigh of relief when I sighted him, had some horrible thoughts when I heard that WASABI had been gutted out…..

If it didn’t come as a surprise visit, maybe it would’ve taken me longer to make my first visit. Entering the hotel lobby brought back a whole lot of mixed feelings - nostalgic, some happy, some not… But by the end of dinner, it was all worth it. Nothing’s changed, the menu, the quality, the service and above all the spirit and positivity. It was heart-warming to see the beaming faces of the hotel staff and the warmth they extended. This was my first step towards getting over the deep pain and fear that 26/11 left on me…

It will NEVER be the same again! I will always be haunted by a lot of memories… but the irony is that some things will always be the same - WASABI, my favourite restaurant and Mumbai, my favourite city!!

    Hi Shilpa

Just read somewhere that you are planning to go bald for a film. Please dont even think of it. I understand that your role might demand it. But I am damn sure it will spoil your beautiful look.

    Pleaaasee don’t do it.

Shilpa madam, yes true, if it was not a surprise for u, u would not have been visited, coz its never tooo easy to fight our emotions. 26/11 was something that left all of us in such a state where there is no U-turn of peace in Taj. Even though ta is open again, as a business is god for them, but for them also its something a memory of many inappreciable happening.
I wrote something for the people having memories of 26/11 as below:

suna! suna nahi jo wo bhi keh gaye tum…
jaatey jaatey door humse , hume bhi sang le gaye tum…
khoon nahi wo zeher tha baha jab dekha uss raat inn aankho ne..
mein ruk hi gaya, phir kabhi na challa,
mein ruk hi gaya, phir kabhi na challa,
aur kabhi na challa unn raho pe…

wo raahein jinpar mein aur tum challa kartey the..
kya wo jo the door desh ke log,
kya unse pyar nahi koi kartey the…
kya unse pyar nahi koi kartey the ..

jo dard diya hai gehra itna,
ki ab to aansu bhi na bahe hain,
aa dekh meri inn aankhon mein, aksar aankho mein bhi tu rahe hain..

gaya hai door ab aana kabhi na..
    jo thehar gaya shaher jisme..
wo sunna na phir kabhi na..
mein geet hun, gaa le mujhe phir se,
ye mumbai hai, mumbai hai, jee le ek jeevan isme..

Home is always best. I’m writing from South Africa and came upon your blog by accident and am pleased to let you know that last month I bought your Yoga DvD at Look & Listen. Really good and painful poses, seeing as I can’t even bend over! But you know what, I’ll not give up. I have a suggestion. I started yoga due to my being obese. Would it be possible to do another DvD, but this time highlighting what the poses are beneficial for and if it could have poses specifically for weight loss. Bharat Thakur has books, but I’m not one to read and do poses, I like to watch and follow.

You have a banging figure…truth be told and I’d like to know how you’ve managed to keep it that away, apart from yoga, of course. Take care.
PS. You look great in Dostana, rejuvenated and HAPPY! It shows even on camera.

Ya Definately it takes time to be normal again, but for that first every one has to make things go normal by working against the terror groups and make people feel some relief whom got effected by them by legal methods.

I understand those feelings of fear, I think we all feel that way whenever we hear of such a profound tragedy. It’s so hard to get back to the way of life before the incident. Their is so much emotions which is so hard to explain. It takes a toll on the way we feel in the future, but only god can guide us through these times. I hope you can get past all that has happened and try to make this a better earth.
