The Royal Encounter and my Marriage!!

April 1, 2009 - 10:38 am

On a flight (what’s new) :) going to New Delhi for some work so thought I would pen down my thoughts. Back from South Africa, we are all set and raring to unleash on the 18th April. I believe some meetings are destined; one experience I would like to share with you was a chance meeting with Royalty. While at the hotel I was staying in at Johannesburg, I got to know that Her Highness Queen Rania of Jordan was staying there too. I have been a huge admirer of her Beauty and work and just two days before that I had seen a picture of her in a magazine and mentioned that how extraordinary a woman she is. Low and behold while walking through the lobby I saw from a distance Queen Rania walking from the other side with her entire entourage.  So I politely stepped to the side to clear the passage out of courtesy, we exchanged a smile and while she was passing me she stopped and actually had a conversation with me.  I knew who she was but had no idea she would even know of me, but as we spoke I realized that London was her second home, so I guess that’s what connected us. I was overwhelmed by her kindness and humility and admired her selfless work towards humanity.  Yet another time we bumped into each other at the poolside and here managed to have an extended conversation and exchanged numbers and bid goodbye. Till Queen Rania was kind enough to accept the Invitation and join us in the presidents box at the Wanderers stadium to watch her first ever T20 cricket match, South Africa Vs Australia. Very sweetly she was trying to understand the game.

It was our third meeting in the same day, so Queen Rania joked saying “You will get bored of me if you meet me so much”.  But every time I met her respect for her just grew, her radiance, her kindness left me spell bound.  She made me realize the importance of charity and giving back to society. It really amazed me that a lady in her position is still so down to earth, her simplicity just amazed me. For me she wasn’t just the Queen of Jordan but the Queen of hearts! She definitely won mine.

Lastly I got to know that I was getting married this October from the media. Just to clear the record in an interview that I did in London, I just said that I am looking forward to getting married sometime after October… haven’t thought of a month or a date. I will be more than happy to make an official announcement the day we are ready to make one but for now the congratulatory calls can be kept on hold :) My hands are quite full right now juggling so many things. Will write soon again, lots of love, Shilpa

P.S. Thank you to all those who’ve been wishing our team Rajasthan Royals. We always need your support. :)

    Dear Shilpa

I am your biggest fan from Holland. I have seen you twice (Rotterdam/Amsterdam). My daughter gave you a rose in Rotterdam years ago.
You and Lucky Ali were in Rotterdam.
I wish you all luck, with Raj. You deserve it 200 per cent!!!
    You have a wonderful laugh.
I like Queen Rania too. She is so beautiful as a person.
All the best with your team (Rajasthan Royals).
Greetings to Raj and your family.

    Lots of love

    Hi Shilpa,
It was good to read about ure meeting with the Queen of Jordan.
I really thought u will do a little trick on 1st April and so am a lil bit disappointed Never mind….
I hope u will post pictures on the blog regularly…it is a great way to keep in touch with ure fans. Hey, any decision abt the eastender news which we are hearing?? Please………u are far too glamourous . Do not accept a petty role in eastender…..just imagine u being the love interest of Phil Mitchel…how dare he??? I am sure u will not be protrayed in the best of light and it will definitely be a wrong career move….trust me.

I have to make a little confession. The day u stepped out of the limousine to enter the Big brother house I thought….” Oh no….we do not want a squabbling bollywood actress to portray Indians in the worst possible way ” And I am so very glad that u proved me wrong. Ure persona not only reflected the whole of the Asians per se but probably extended to everybody to whom u became an instant icon of tolerace, grace, dignity and respect. Small things like offering ure shawl to Uncle KIM (?) were noticed by viewrs and they bonded with u. Try and keep ureself in that pedestal.

Keep well……….and good luck to ure team although I am supporting kolkata knight riders ( well as a Bengali has to support the team where Sourav is…cant help!!!)
    Cheers
    R

Dear Shilpa: Thanks for your latest post. Believe this…No other woman on earth, regardless of her rank, title, or status, is more regal, aristocratic, and awe-inspiring than our own Queen of India, Shilpa Shetty. Daily Mail In Britain published photos of your “Raj Mahal” home. Fabulous! Take care, stay safe.

    Hi Shilpa,

I hope you are very well, as well as being very busy! A busy bee jetting over from one place to the other. Do you ever keep still!!?

Shilpa, I live in the UK, and as a fan was a bit worried when I heard rumours going around that you may star in Eastenders. I hope this is not true! For a glamorous star I can’t picture you in such a de-glam show! eastenders is just a soap that revolves around lives of very uninteresting people! There are not that many good tv shows I can think of coming out of the UK. Think about this. How many tv stars from UK can you think of? The only acclaimed ones in recent times have been shows like Absolutely fabulous, and The Office. But I think the best tv is coming out of USA at the moment. Think of the popularity of Friends, Desperate Housewives, sex & the city, Lost, 24, heroes etc - nothing matching the popularity of those shows is coming out of UK at the moment. The only thing UK has been good at lately is the game show formats - they have created a lot of gameshows (Who wants to be a millonaire, weakest link, pop idol etc) and these formats have been exported all over the world. I dont think you starring in eastenders will do much for your glamorous image! please don’t do eastenders!! if there is some other show being created around you, then maybe, but not eastenders please!!!!!

Good luck for IPL and everything else. God Bless - Rihana

hey Shilpa…I am a huge from Los Angeles…I was just wondering if u were thinking about getting a Twitter (www.twitter.com) account…just wanted to know…thanx

  23. ronguus Says:

    Hi Shilpa,
I guess u r too busy or shooting in a locale where there is no internet connection. I hate to think that u are “too busy” so as not be able to write a line in your”BLOG” over the last 7 days. We all thought that you created this site so that ure fans can be in touch with you, but YES…I must say that I definitely AM disappointed because I feel that as a fan we are being ignored. I am sure u speak with ure close ones for 5 minutes and perhaps this is what we ask 4….just 5 minutes to pen a little note regarding how ure day has been….thats it!!
I sincerely hope that u show a bit more commitment to your blog or u may end up with more and more disgruntled fans like me. I hope u understand that fans can be ure best critics since they will always give u an honest opinion and I hope u do appreciate their concerns.
    Best Wishes
    R
